Blur Auction Costume in aid of Oxfam

September 16th, 2005 by Pete

Blur are amongst the stars of fashion, film and music who have donated items of their clothing for an online auction to support Oxfam’s lifesaving work around the world. Several of the motorcyle helmets, motorcyle gloves and dancers’ costumes used in the band’s ‘Music is my Radar’ video, along with over a hundred other eminently collectable fashion items, will feature in an online auction during London Fashion Week - 18th to 25th September.

Celebrities were asked to donate their ‘favourite item of clothing’ to the project. These items, many of which were designed by top names, are made even more special by their unique history. Winning bidders will receive a handwritten note with the story behind the item, and details of why it was so important to its previous owner.

The project is a collaboration between top photographer Nick Knight’s SHOWstudio, and i-D magazine. Knight captured images of the items, which had been customised by a team of superstylists, in a fashion shoot featuring stars such as Naomi Campbell, Erin O’Connor, and Karolina Kurkova.

You can see a preview of the items going under the hammer on the SHOWstudio website at: www.showstudio.com/projects/bringandbuy/auction/. and for a chance to win these utterly unique fashion items, log on at: www.oxfam.org.uk/bringandbuy/

There is no reserve on any of the items and the auction begins at 8pm (GMT) September 18, and ends at 8pm September 25.

Oxfam: Auctions Blur Guitar & Sells Loads Of Wellies

July 1st, 2005 by Pete

Daddy G (Massive Attack) Those all-round good eggs Oxfam have announced this week that they’re auctioning a guitar signed by Blur’s Damon Albarn, Massive Attack and The Coral. Plus news of how the charity benefited from Glasto’s storm by raising a shedload from wellie sales.

A guitar signed by some British music legends will be auctioned on eBay by Oxfam next week, to raise money for the charity’s lifesaving work around the world. Stars including Damon Albarn, Led Zep legend Robert Plant and members of Portishead, The Coral and Massive Attack (pictured, Massive Attack member Daddy G) have all scrawled their monikers on the guitar so it’s time to reach for those credit cards and click here.

The guitar is up for grabs now in the ‘Charity Auction Section’ of eBay under the seller name ‘Oxfam’, and will be stay up for auction for one week. The proceeds from the auction will be used by Oxfam in its work to alleviate poverty and suffering in more than 70 countries worldwide.

Worth around £1,500, the acoustic was signed by the stars at the recent Oxfam Tsunami Aid gigs at the Bristol Academy in February and was donated by music store Sound Control.

Oxfam’s Ben Littlejohn explained, “The event in Bristol was a phenomenal success, and we’re hoping that the guitar auction will build on this by raising as much as possible for Oxfam’s work. The guitar is an enticing one-off for any fan or collector, and the winning bidder will be doing their bit to help Oxfam at the same time as adding this truly unique item to their collection.”

In other news, Oxfam’s waterproof’s stall at Glastonbury quite literally cleaned up at this weekend. While music fans were hastily building an arc to combat the torrential rain, the Oxfam waterproofs stall opened at 10am and by midday had banked £13,000 for good causes. The Oxfam stall, who were themselves trading under a foot of water, sold stock collected from Oxfam shops around the country.

Damon Albarn’s Waiting For Graham

May 16th, 2005 by Pete

Damon Albarn has revealed he’s waiting for Graham Coxon return before Blur make a new album.

Admitting that there’s nothing planned for his first band at the moment, Albarn told Billboard he’s keen to work with his former guitarist and friend again.

“I’m waiting for Graham to talk to me again,” said the Blur singer. “I’d love to see if we could make another record. I miss playing live in something that I grew up in. I do feel it’s a shame that we didn’t stick to it. Hopefully, we’ll play together soon. As musicians, we need to spread peace and love.”

However with Coxon currently completing a solo album and telling NME.COM earlier this year that a return to Blur was “not on the cards”, Albarn is concentrating on Gorillaz for now, announcing plans to tour the band’s second album ‘Demon Days’.

“It will all be done by silhouette,” he explained of the new live show. “It would be one (show) where the lights never come up, So, if Dennis Hopper (who features on the album) were to walk on stage, you would know it’s him by his voice alone - as well as his silhouette. It will be like those old cut out silhouette portraits everyone used to get.”

‘Demon Days’ is released on May 23, with dates set to be announced soon.
