Damon Albarn, he of Blur, Gorillaz fame, has confirmed he will be lending his quite considerable support to the forthcoming Dax Pierson benefit show at the Scala. He joins a line-up already that already boasts Super Furry Animals, Mogwai and Hot Chip.
The benefit, taking place on May 9 at Kings Cross’ Scala in London, will raise funds for Pierson [of the groups Subtle, 13+god and Themselves] who last February was badly injured in a road accident.
Although Dax is now in a stable condition he’s been left with a long period of rehab in front of him and an estimated $80,000 to overhaul his lifestyle. The organisers are hoping the gig could raise $15,000 towards his cause.
Already confirmed are live appearances by Hot Chip, Hood and Helena Costas and a set of very special DJ sets from the likes Chris Cunningham, Four Tet, Trevor Jackson, Richard X and a special Super Furry Animals DJs vs. Mogwai DJs event. It should be assumed Mogwai will be leaving their “Blur: Are Shit” T-shirts at home that night in aid of charity
This is one of a series of shows that are being held across the globe for Pierson. Munich, Berlin, Zurich, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Minneapolis, Chicago, and Vancouver will also host similar events. Tickets are £10 and available from TicketWeb or from Rough Trade shop, Covent Garden, WC2 (0207 240 0105). Doors open at 19.30 and the night runs until midnight. The full line up for the show is:
