July 1st, 2005 by Pete

Daddy G (Massive Attack) Those all-round good eggs Oxfam have announced this week that they’re auctioning a guitar signed by Blur’s Damon Albarn, Massive Attack and The Coral. Plus news of how the charity benefited from Glasto’s storm by raising a shedload from wellie sales.

A guitar signed by some British music legends will be auctioned on eBay by Oxfam next week, to raise money for the charity’s lifesaving work around the world. Stars including Damon Albarn, Led Zep legend Robert Plant and members of Portishead, The Coral and Massive Attack (pictured, Massive Attack member Daddy G) have all scrawled their monikers on the guitar so it’s time to reach for those credit cards and click here.

The guitar is up for grabs now in the ‘Charity Auction Section’ of eBay under the seller name ‘Oxfam’, and will be stay up for auction for one week. The proceeds from the auction will be used by Oxfam in its work to alleviate poverty and suffering in more than 70 countries worldwide.

Worth around £1,500, the acoustic was signed by the stars at the recent Oxfam Tsunami Aid gigs at the Bristol Academy in February and was donated by music store Sound Control.

Oxfam’s Ben Littlejohn explained, “The event in Bristol was a phenomenal success, and we’re hoping that the guitar auction will build on this by raising as much as possible for Oxfam’s work. The guitar is an enticing one-off for any fan or collector, and the winning bidder will be doing their bit to help Oxfam at the same time as adding this truly unique item to their collection.”

In other news, Oxfam’s waterproof’s stall at Glastonbury quite literally cleaned up at this weekend. While music fans were hastily building an arc to combat the torrential rain, the Oxfam waterproofs stall opened at 10am and by midday had banked £13,000 for good causes. The Oxfam stall, who were themselves trading under a foot of water, sold stock collected from Oxfam shops around the country.
