Graham Coxon Reveals Details of New Album

May 14th, 2005 by Pete

Graham Coxon has revealed details of his new album - which he has branded “psycha-sentimental-aladelic”.

The guitarist is finishing work on the follow-up to last year’s ‘Happiness In Magazines’ and has been collaborating again with former Blur producer Stephen Street.

“I think as person who enjoys extremes, the middle ground has been somewhat cut out in a lot of these songs and I’ve gone out further either side, Coxon told NME.COM. “It’s quite heavy and emotionally heavy and quite direct lyrically and quite hectic.”

Describing the theme of the record, the guitarist said: “All songs concern the dreaded ‘L.O.V.E’ from falling in love, splitting up, jealousy, unfaithfulness, lust, everything really.”

Recorded at London’s Mayfair and Olympic studios, tracks expected to appear on the as-yet-untitled album include ‘Gimme Some Love’, ‘I Can’t Look At Your Skin Cos It’s Doing Me In’, ‘Just A State Of Mind’, ‘Don’t Let Your Man Know’, ‘Tell It Like It Is’, ‘You And I’, ‘Flights To The Sea’ and Don’t Believe Anything I Say’.

“It’s hugely deep, hugely emotional, unashamedly sneering in places and sarcastic, it sounds really nice,” Coxon said of the record, which is due for release in the autumn. “Lyrically because it is so direct and personal I can sometimes shrink from doing a vocal on the songs - it’s pretty much like standing with no clothes on in front of people. In that way it’s quite frightening.”
